ABOUT THE FILM
More than anything, 9-year-old Gina dreams of having a real family. Her mother is raising three children on her own and is already expecting another, but she has yet to meet a decent man who could become a father figure for them. While their mother seeks solace in alcohol and wild parties—risking losing custody of her children—little Gina is determined to fix the bleak situation shaped by poverty, neglect, and a lack of love. This is a family portrait of three generations of women, told from the perspective of a 9-year-old girl who is determined to change her fate.
REASON TO WATCH
Director Ulrike Kofler shows how destructive patterns of behaviour in the family are passed down from generation to generation, and how much effort is needed to break them. The film premiered at the Munich Film Festival. Actress Marie-Louise Stockinger, who played Gina's mother in the film, won the Best Actress award at the Austrian Diagonale Film Festival (2025).
